On A Dime- Part 7
By MountainMan246

His head was spinning. Kurt didn't know what was what anymore, and the...thing...that nearly killed him wasn't helping his sanity. He was starting to lose himself now, as the realization that he really was trapped in a body that felt alien and wrong to him. Not to mention of course that his entire life WAS A LIE!!! Tears welled up in his new eyes and he wiped them away.
He and Louis, the stranger who saved 'her'(God that was going to take some getting used to) life when he took down the assassin, (Who had vanished when their backs were turned, as a wonderful surprise) were in his apartment on the second floor of the complex. It was three rooms: A single-bed bedroom, bathroom, and a kitchen/living/dining room. Although rather small, it was well cared for and, if not stylishly, was at least fully furnished.  Kurt realized 'she' had been sitting on his couch hunched over and shaking violently.
"-said, are you ok?" She (Might as well face it) felt two hands on her shoulders. "I understand that you're shaken up and all, but we need to contact the police!" That was the second part of the problem. Exactly how the hell do you explain this situation to the police?

~Oh, hello officer! My name is Kurt Jones, or at least I thought it was! I have the mind of a man who was actually not real but a computer program downloaded into a young woman's body. I'm also a living weapon for an organization that's supposed to be a secret. Also, this body is capable of killing without my control and has a voice I hear in my head from time to time. Louis here is a kindly stranger who helped me escape a cyborg looking assassin a little while ago, but disappeared like a ninja! I also have no ID because I recently escaped from a lab where I woke up. So if you could just arrest the guy in charge of the organization that would be super duper! ~

Like Hell that was happening!

"I r-really appreciate your help, but we can't contact the police." She said shakily, "I just need a place to stay for a while so I get my head together." She paused for a moment. "I know this is sudden, but I won't be a problem! I swear!" Louis wasn't an idiot. He could tell that this girl was terrified of something, but the idea of getting outside help terrified her more. She clearly wasn't a criminal, 'She would've run or killed me by now.' She needed somewhere to recover, and guess who she decided to trust completely? 'In fact,' he realized, 'trusting me at all must be a big step for her! `
"Can you at least tell me your name?" he asked out loud, "We didn't have...well...much time to talk out there."
Kurt froze for a moment. 'What do I say?!' she thought in a panic, 'Kurt'? That's a guy's name! I can't have the only person who wants to help me think I'm nuts and call the cops! I'd end up in a mental ward!' She cleared her throat, still trying to get used to a higher voice, and said, "...K-Kate. My name is Kate." Louis waited for a moment and realized she wasn't going to give a last name. Sighing, he took her hand in his and shook it. "It's nice to meet you Kate. I'm Louis Garnet."

For the first time, Kurt (Kate. Why not? Nothing made sense anymore.) looked closely at her rescuer. He was twenty one years old, like her, and had sand blonde hair that stuck up slightly at the base of his neck. Louis had dark blue eyes and a runner's build, and was also about an inch taller than her. He was clearly a man who...kept in shape...
Kurt slammed her mental brakes. Where THE CRAP had that line of thought been going? More importantly, where did it COME FROM? 'I'm still a guy,' she thought desperately, 'mentally, but still a guy! I'm not some princess falling for a handsome prince who slew the evil dragon or....' (She remembered that Louis had saved her from the assassin, whom she doubted, wanted to chat and was letting her stay in his home) 'NO!' she scolded herself. 'Stop it...wait, did I just say 'handsome'?' She felt her cheeks flush slightly from shame and something she refused to acknowledge. 'I hate this freaking body!'

Louis noticed her pink face and put a hand to her forehead. 'Is she sick?' he thought, 'She did sit out in the rain for God knows how long before I found her.'
Kate (Need to get used to that too) felt her cheeks burn red as he put a hand to her forehead and jerked back like she was electrocuted.
"Sorry!" Louis said quickly. "I wanted to make sure you didn't get sick from the rainfall last night. That's all." He then figured out a possible reason why she had backed away and went was stunned for a moment. This time, his face turned slightly red. He then cleared his thoughts, reminding himself that this girl was in trouble and needed his help.
"It's-" Kate stopped as her voice squeaked and brought it back under control. "It's ok."
The two sat in awkward silence for a moment, which Louis broke.
"Why was that man chasing you? Where are you from?"
'He's catching on!' she thought, 'I've got to say something. Come clean? No, he'll say I'm crazy!'Kate's mind was in overdrive. 'Should I trust him? He's the only sane thing in my life right now!'
